An opera libretto which he would dearly liked to include in this volume was The Tale of Mr Tod. The wonderful scene of Brock in bed and Mr Tod waiting, waiting... what we have lost! The snores, the fight, the clatter, the long silence... I wanted to be Mr Tod with Owen Branningan as Tommy Brock, but the terms which the publishers demanded put it out of question.
